The task
We were honoured to be given the opportunity to work on the renovation of the Doctoral Office in the main building of one of the country's most historic universities. The building is very impressive and has recently undergone an interior renovation, so we were ready to do a job worthy of the occasion. The office is a busy place and has to accommodate a number of functions in a relatively small footprint, including the Registrar's office. In addition to demolition, the task included the construction of a gallery twice the size of the previous one, and a complete refurbishment of the office - all during the summer break.
The university staff knew exactly what instructions to give to help the construction work, so after the first week of meetings, we picked up the pace and proceeded on a day-by-day schedule. The gallery is a steel structure with no intermediate support, and features a single-space office with associated filing room. The rooms were to be enclosed by a vaulted ceiling, reflecting the character of the building, with a custom-made soundproof glass wall. The single-space office downstairs and the Registrar's office have been completely renewed with modern finishes, lamps and fine details in harmony with the classical elements.
Precise scheduling and regular customer monitoring have greatly simplified the handover process. We have always prepared thoroughly for weekly co-operations, knowing in advance the needs of the technical inspectors, thus reducing the number of items on the final defect list. As a result, handover, including acceptance of the handover documentation, was completed within a week.
We are proud
We were delighted to see that we had produced a work worthy of the university's reputation and history. We are confident that the building will bear the marks of our work for decades to come and will continue to provide a worthy setting for the Doctoral Office.
